Development of a synthetic protocol for waste-derived materials (nanostructured cellulose and chitin) for the in situ treatment of contaminated marine sediments. The materials produced are tested for the adsorption of contaminants (heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons - PAHs, Polychlorinated biphenyls - PCBs, organic dyes) with the aim of incorporating them into a reactive core mat.
